Valentin Barrera, Jr., 54, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away on May 17, 2023, in Carlsbad.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., at The Fourth and Bedford Church of Christ in Dimmitt, Texas with Dr. James Jones of Fox and Lake Church of Christ of Carlsbad, New Mexico. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Dimmitt, under the Direction of Colonial Funeral Home. Viewing will be on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 1:00 -7:00 P.M. at the funeral home with a Prayer Service beginning at 5:30 P.M., officiated by Dallas Carrasco and Brandon Franco.

Valentin Barrera, Jr. was born to Valentin and Juanita (Mirelez) Barrera on August 10, 1968, in Dimmitt, Texas.  He left this earth on May 17, 2023, to meet our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Valentin did not lose his battle with cancer because he never stopped fighting and provided us with courage and strength. He was a warrior in body, spirit, and faith.

Thanks to all the doctors and nurses at UMC of Lubbock, Texas, especially Dr. Al-Tamimi and TLC Hospice of Carlsbad, NM that provided care and support.

Valentin was preceded into heaven and eternity by his mother, Juanita Mirelez; father, Valentin Barrera; maternal grandmother, Narcisa Hernandez; maternal grandfather, Fernando Hernandez; paternal grandmother, Francisca Barrera; paternal grandfather, Felipe Barrera; sister, Estella Barrera.

He is survived by his wife, Nora Barrera of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Michael Jeremy Barrera of Ft. Worth, Texas, Aaron Val Barrera of Ft. Worth, Texas; bonus children: Valerie Villareal of Lubbock, Texas, Uriah Villareal of Amarillo, Texas, Omar Catano of Hereford, Texas; six grandchildren, Jeremy Levi Barrera, Andrew Graham Barrera, Natalie Rose Barrera, Josiah Barrera, Alexander Martin Casarez, and Brooklyn Liza Catano; sister, Lydia Gonzales of Amarillo, Texas; brothers: Victor Barrera of Austin, Texas, Richard Guzman of Amarillo, Texas, Andy Gonzales of Amarillo, Texas; many nieces, nephews, loving cousins, aunts, uncles and a multitude of priceless friends.
