Yvonne Wakefield, daughter of A.O "Hutch" Mitchell and Geneva (Walker) Mitchell was born in Wolfe City, Texas on January 11, 1935, and departed this life on May 24, 2024, in Big Spring, Texas, at the age of eighty-nine years.
Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM in Hart Cemetery, Hart, Texas with Pastor David Parker, and David Denman officiating.  Local arrangements have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home, Dimmitt, Texas.
Yvonne Wakefield had been a resident of Castro County since 1967.  She graduated from Wayland Baptist University in 1957 and then received her master's degree from West Texas A&M in 1983.  She taught school for Dimmitt Independent School District for many years up until her retirement in 1995.  But most importantly, she took great pride in her former church (Lee Street Baptist) and her sincere 10-year dedication for her mission work for the Navajos & Pueblo Indians, something that was so dear to her heart.
Those left to cherish her memories are her 3 children, Connie Brunnet and husband Alan of Lumber Bridge, NC, Cyndy Watt and husband Mark of Big Spring, TX, and Steve Wakefield and wife Lynn of Nashville, TN, sister, Janet Bridinger and husband Mark of Clovis, NM along with sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A.O "Hutch" Mitchell and Geneva Mitchell, husband, Lewis Wakefield, brothers, George Robert Mitchell, and Dwaine Mitchell, and sister, Barbara Capenter.
Yvonne had requested memorials be made to: Jemez Valley Baptist Church, PO Box 140, Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico, 87024.
